York, Yorkshire

On Wednesday, we visited the pretty city of York. I enjoyed it very much. York was the highlight of our trip!! Unfortunately, the weather was not so good =(

When we arrived, we first visited the minster. It's an incredible building. Shame it's being renovated though!

I can't seem to be able to take straight pictures haha

Later in the morning, we went on a walking tour with a volunteer guide. It was really interesting because the guide told us things we would never have learned from our guide book of from the Internet! He was really nice and funny too, with his Yorkshire accent! And the tour was free, so we couldn't have asked for more!!

So here are a couple of pictures of the tour!

Here you can see some ruins of York's ramparts and some stone coffins as well. Oooooh gloomy!

Here look! Look closer! You can't see it? Focus! Here is the smallest window in York! Yes! What was it used for? Toilets! Yay! Wee-wees, poo-poos, all out of that tiny tiny window and right onto the street below! I decided to show you this picture because the guide was rabbiting on about how smelly and disgusting York used to be back in the day. Yuk! Excrements, diseases, all that. Must have been fabulous!

This calf represents something, but I honestly can't remember what! I just like cows so I thought it'd be nice to add it here haha.

One of the city's gates, with the minster in the background!

Walking on the wall. That was nice!!

That's the Dutch House. The Dutch were really famous for their skills in architecture. This house is really nice indeed, don't you reckon?

Random *nice* houses in York.

Here are three pictures of the Shambles, the butchers' street. They would prepare the meat and then display it in the street, for the customers to buy. It must have stunk wonderfully! Look at the houses; they seem on the verge of collapsing into each other! The guide told us that people used to shake hands leaning out of their respective window. Mwa ha ha. Hilarious.

And that was the end of our tour!! Tatjana and I then went on seeing the things we hadn't seen with the guide!

Fairfax House.

Cliff's Tower. It's on..... a cliff. Kind of. A hill rather I'd say but hey!

Merchant Adventurers' Hall.

And finally, we walked around and enjoyed the *not* nice weather and buzzing streets of York!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Before taking the train, we decided to visit York's famous railway museum, which is free. I'd heard it was really good and Tatjana was interested in seeing it too. But to be honest, I'm really not that interested in trains so after 5-10 minutes, we got bored. We were quite tired as well so we left and took the train back to Leeds!

I really like York. It's cute and historical and the streets and houses are beautiful!! =)
