Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Northumbria

Our last destination was Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. We left Leeds on Thursday morning and took the train to Newcastle. The journey was quite long and unfortunately, the landscape was not really exciting haha. When we arrived in the city, the sun was shining. Yes! And it was almost warm too!

First of all, we went to our hostel to leave our bags there. The hostel is quite close to the city centre as it's on a metro line. Easy peasy! We couldn't check in because the rooms were being cleaned, but we could leave our bags there.

Newcastle is a modern town and it's really animated. I really enjoyed it! Once again, I will show you pictures and comment when necessary! Enjoy!

Grey's monument

Chinatown gate.

The beautiful St. Andrew's Cathedral!

Here is Newcastle.... castle!! Not so impressive like that, but it offers a wonderful view of the city and its bridges!!

I know this is not the best picture. But I guess we have to accept the fact that some people really have no idea at all of how a picture should be taken. Anyway.

Tyne bridge.

The Sage Gateshead, concert hall (it's supposed to look like a butterfly cocoon and I think it kinda does!).

The Millennium bridge, with the Baltic centre (contemporary art) in the background.

Yes, I like this bridge very much =P

Those pictures were taken inside the Sage Gateshead. I think it's a really cool building; both inside and out!!

And that's it! We visited Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in less than one day!! We were tired, as we climbed numerous stairs, but happy! We went back to the hostel and met our room-mates. A German girl who's an assistant in Lincolnshire, a girl from New Zealand and a Brazilian girl. They were all really friendly and we decided to go out together for a drink! I really wanted to see Newcastle by night =)

We first went to the river to see the illuminated bridges (really nice!) and then had a drink in a bar where live music was played. I enjoyed our evening very much and am happy we went out for a while!

The Millennium bridge changes colour every minute. As I don't think you're interested in seeing it in every single colour, I chose the green one, as green is my favourite colour =P

That's in the bar!!

When we came back, it was around midnight. Not too bad! I slept really well that night.

On Friday, the last day, we decided to take the bus to the Angel of the North, a huge statue that's in the south of Newcastle and of which Northumbrian people seem to be really proud. It was designed by Antony Gormley. It is 20 metres (66 ft) tall, with wings measuring 54 metres (177 ft) across. So basically, it's HUGE! It's not beautiful, but definitively impressive and quite cool!!

Then we went back to town and walked around. It was then time to go to the hostel to take our suitcases and leave for the station! We were really tired when we got back to Soham but really happy about our trip - well I was!!!
